(this rp is set during the first war, roughly four months before the deaths of Lily and James Potter)
The darkness coalesced into a mass of dark fog, it quickly swirled and bulged here and there. Finally after a few seconds a man stood in the darkness of the great forest. This man was skeletal thin and cloaked in pure darkness. His slit pupiled eyes were scarlet and the moon light reflected off his ghostly pale skin. Roughly thirty men were gathered around him, their knees planted in the forest floor, their heads lowered in solemn respect....some in fear. As they should be. Lord Voldemort demanded perfection and respect. And god help the person who failed him.
"Aw my dear followers." he said in a cold voice. A few of the people surrounding him squirmed a bit. Most everyone remained completely still. "The days are growing darker." he said darkly. "Can you feel it?" he asked in a voice almost as if addressing a lover. "Tonight will be a victory. I can assure you." his pale, thin hands were loosely grasping a wand, his barefeet were dirty and he paced over the underbrush and dead leaves.
A hollow wind blew through the trees causing his robes to blow out around him a bit and causing a few in the half circle surround the Dark Lord to raise their head fraction of an inch. "Too long have the Order of the Phoenix escaped my grasp. Well tonight..." he smirked, his teeth showing in a flash of white against the darkened forest. "Tonight will strike a blow against them that will keep them on the move. I have come so far and will soon smash them from the face of the earth. Then, my followers, i will be free to do as i please with the rest of the world."
He gazed at the men before him. "I -" he said in a carrying voice as his eyes glanced at each person knelt before him in turn. "I alone have come further than any other witch or wizard before me. I have delved into the most profane and dark magic. And soon my grasp will close in a stranglehold around the throat of the Ministry and the Order." Again there was a brief breeze and then everything was calm. The entire forest was silent. As if listening to his words.
"My Lord -" came a voice from the semi circle. I was a woman's voice. The entire group of people were clad in pure black robes and silver masks covered their faces. The woman stood when Lord Voldemort nodded at her and she took a few steps towards him then stopped. Her gloved hand gripped her wand tightly and the wand trembled for a bit then lie still. She waved her wand over her face and the mask dissolved into a silver mist then dissipated.
The woman appeared young. Late twenties at most. And she was beautiful. Her eyes were wide in adoration at the Dark Lord. "Master. Why don't you stay back and let me lead the charge. If they-" But he cut her off with a sneer.
"If they what, Bellatrix? Destroy me? Take me? No. I have delved into all forms of magic and taken paths rarely walked. I will not die tonight. Now take your place." he said the last bit dismissively. Bellatrix knelt back in line and watched him in adoration as he paced, hands fingering his wand. He eyed them all once more then nodded. As one the Death Eaters rose before the Dark Lord and they turned on the spot and with a loud collective crack were gone.
Now the clearing was deathly silent. As if in the aftermath of a disaster.
---
They appeared a split second later with a crack on the out skirts of a village. Richard removed his wand from his robes and looked around. He saw Voldemort on the far right side of them, his wand gripped loosely in his hand, face lacking any kind of emotion for what they were to do.
He turned back to the scene at hand. They were coming here to destroy a key group that was meeting. It consisted of ministry officials and Order members. The Dark Lord, by way of a spy in the ranks of the Order, had learned the location and time of the meeting. They were meeting to move in on a few known death eaters.
Eying the village he saw three men walking around, high collared black cloaks marking them as aurors. Every thing else was silent. No other movement. A light burned in a building in the center of the small village. That would be where they were holed up.
He glanced back at the Dark Lord. He nodded and they moved out as one. They descended on the village in a huge mass of dark cloaks and silver masks. Richard came within a few feet of an auror and raised his wand. "Avada Kedavra." he whispered.
There was a flash of green and the man fell to the ground, his eyes glazed over in death. He saw the other two aurors fall in similar fashion. He scanned the area for movement. He felt like he was being watched and turned his head to the right slightly. There was a bang and he was sent skidding on the ground, his ears ringing. It felt as if a sledgehammer had smashed into his chest, knocking all the wind from his body.
He gasped and raised his wand as a man descended upon him. "Sectumsempra." he managed to gasp out. The curse slammed into the man and he instantly dropped his wand, clutching his throat as his life's blood poured from the wound. Richard dragged him self to his feet and grasped his chest. All around them spells were flying this way and that as more aurors joined the fray. He watched as the Dark Lord sent three aurors flying backwards in a flash of red.
A huge bang caught his attention and he whipped his head around and saw a Death Eater fall under the weight of an Auror's reductor curse. The auror caught sight of him and sent a stunning spell his way. He slashed his wand and the spell rebounded and hit the man full on in the face. He rubbed his chest and sucked air in as he made his way to the fallen auror. When he reached him he pointed his wand at his prone form. "Avada Kedavra." he said flatly and the curse smashed into the man with such force he was lifted a few inches from the ground and landed a few inches away.
He looked around to see how they were fairing. Bodies littered the ground here and there. He heard running footsteps behind him and turned like a bolt and raised his wand. But he lowered a second later when Rodolphus Lestrange approached him, mask gone, blood dribbling from his lower lip. "Fuck." he said, huffing as he placed a hand on Richard's shoulder.
"Who knew they had this many aurors on call." he straightened up and removed his hand from Richard's shoulder. "Well, come on. Let's end this." he whistled and waved a hand. His wife, Bellatrix Lestrange dropped a man with a well placed killing curse and then with a pop was standing next to them. Richard had not seen any of their targets in the fray so far. They must have heard the commotion.
About ten minutes later they reached the main building. Richard stopped them and closed his eyes. He raised his wand and felt a rush of warmth surge from his heart to his shoulder then up his arm to his wand. But just then a huge jolt wracked his body. His eyes snapped open and he sucked in a breath. "There are strong barriers over this place." he said as he tapped his wand against his thigh.
"Why didn't they join the fray. I know they had to have heard us. Maybe not though. We were on the outskirts of the village. Rodolphus, help me break these charms."
After about five minutes the barrier fell and they stepped into the building. Wands at the ready.
